How a Jackals page is checked

Every money, tax or employment page goes through the same checks before it's published or updated:

  1. Primary source first. Each figure (an allowance, a threshold, a deadline) is taken from GOV.UK, HMRC manuals, Companies House or the relevant regulator, not from a blog or forum. The tax year it applies to is stated next to it.
  2. Dated where it changes. Figures that are reset each year, such as the trading allowance, ISA limits and the Making Tax Digital thresholds, carry the tax year they apply to. When a new tax year starts on 6 April, those pages are reviewed.
  3. Scope is stated. Pages say when a rule applies only in England, or differs in Scotland (for example, Scottish income tax bands), Wales or Northern Ireland.
  4. Composites are labelled. Worked examples use invented names and round numbers, and say so. We don't present made-up clients as testimonials or case studies.
  5. No claimed testing. When we mention software or equipment, we describe what it's for and what to check, not a hands-on test we haven't done.
